"How To Steal A Dog," by Barbara O'Connor, reviewed by Kayleigh N.

What would you do if you if you needed $500? How would you spend it? 10 year old Georgina who is very determined and her younger brother Toby who is about 7 years old will do anything to get them and their mom out of a car and living in a house. After thinking a little Georgina decided to steal a dog and get the reward money to pay for a house. When Georgina stole the dog her and Toby found the owner of the dog and persuaded her to put up Lost posters with a reward of $500. The owner,Carmella, didn't have the money and her sister wouldn't give her the money to her so a family member gave her the money. This story takes place mostly in the Haye's car and at Carmella's house.
This book is serious but in a fun,kid way. Barbara O'Connor did an interesting thing by pretending that she was Georgina and she wrote in a journal called How To Steal a Dog. I would recommend this book to other 5th graders because I think they can relate(not with stealing a dog)but with sticky situations like Georgina and Toby went through.

Kayleigh,
We liked the way you described the characters and what they did. There were a lot of details that helped us understand what was happening in the book. What made you choose this book to read and post about?

Kayleigh,
You did a good job with this! You included descriptive words and context clues as to why the characters would steal a dog. We are glad you did not reveal the ending. We are wondering where Georgina would hide the dog if she lived in a car?

Kayleigh,
You did such a good job that our class decided that this book will be our next read aloud.
We are curious if you ever find out what breed of dog it is. We liked that you told us that the book was written in the first person point of view.
