"Hoot," by Carl Hiaasen, reviewed by Lauren H.

2 stars

What would you do if you found out that an animals habitat was being destroyed? In Coconut Cove a new Mother Paula's Pancake house is being built on East Oriole Street. But what no one knows is that burrowing owls live on the property. The determined Roy Eberhardt, his tough friend Beatrice, and her runaway step-brother nicknamed Mullet Fingers are the only ones that know about the owls. All three of the kids work hard and take many risks to save the amazing creatures. Will all of their hard work pay off?

In the book "Hoot" the authors message was to never give up. When it seemed there was nothing else they could do, the kids kept on trying to save the burrowing owls. In my opinion I would not recommend the book because it took to long to the problem. Also, I thought that it was a little inappropriate because it has some parts that were not very kid friendly. But what I did enjoy about the book was how there were two stories going on that in the middle of the book came together. Unless you love a very long book I would not recommend this book.

Lauren,
I love your summary! I would love to read this book again. Also I like your recommendation a lot. Even if you like shorter books, I'm glad you wanted to try it.
