"Brian's Winter," by Gary Paulsen, reviewed by Ariana C.

5 stars

What would you do if you were stranded in the Canadian wilderness ? Thirteen year old Brian, a boy who is from upstate New York gets in a plane crash in the first book called "Hatchet"but in this book, "Brian's Winter" he is still trying to survive but he is about to face his worst enemy ...winter. He has to work, he has to pick berries, hunt for meat, and chop down enough wood for fire every day or else he goes hungry or freezes to death.Throughout the book Brian changes because of all the differences basically, he is like a wild animal hunting and working hard to survive. Near the end of the book Brian goes far away from his shelter and sees human foot prints and starts to follow them. Will Brian be rescued?

I would recommend this book to students who love realistic fiction or survival stories. The author Gary Paulsen uses a lot of interesting similes to describe how Brian is feeling . It makes you want to read more and more, there is always something interesting going on. For me, this was one of the best books I've ever read.
