This Means War! reviewed by- Jesse F.

Juliet and Lowell had always been best friends until Lowell decided it was not "cool" to play with girls anymore and went to play with airforce brats and Bruce instead. When Patsy moves in everything changes. She challenges the boys to a series of tests to see who is better. Juliet starts hanging out with Patsy and hates Lowell more by the minute. Throughout the book they are pretty much even. Some days the girls win and the other the boys so it all comes down to the last test. They decide to go into a old haunted barn to see who can stay in the longest but when Bruce plays a mean trick they have to decide what is more important, their lives, or winning?

"Clarice Bean Spells Trouble," By Lauren Child, reviewed by Cassandra M.

4 1/2 stars

Have you ever read Clarice Bean Spells Trouble? If you are having trouble spelling, open the book and start reading!

In this book there are some main characters. They are Karl, Robert, Clarice, Betty, and Minal. In chapter one a girl named Grace accidentally got hit with a water balloon at the playground two boy were throwing the water balloon back and fourth even though the boys did it on accident she told on them . In some peoples eyes they think of her as being a tattle tail. In this next chapter its about how everyone has a talent for a example being a good singer or a good actor . Talking about the characters Clarice and Minal are brothers and sisters. Granny is Clarice's grandma one thing you should know is that when their grandma sees something she likes she gets it for her grandchildren for an example Clarice got a Ruby Redfront notebook but unfortunately one day she drops it on the other side of the fence and must to have to wait a day to receive it back. Clarice thought to her self and said "good thing it had a lock on it so no one could read what was in it."

Later that day Karl wrote something mean on the board it said "trotter." The definition of trotters is pig feet. Kurt is Clarice's brother. I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend this book because it really really funny.

Football Double Threat By: Matt Christopher Rev.Brendan D.

Rocky is a hard worker, very smart, and he is fast.Bobby is not so good in school but he is fast just like Rocky. The book begins when the team is in the locker room changing into their uniform. The team is getting ready for the first game of the season. Most of the story takes place at a middle school practicing football or in class. The problem in this book is when Bobby broke his leg and he is the team's starting safty and he is out for the season. It gets worse the team's back up safty is moving out of the state. The coach wants Rocky and the kicker to play safty and its up to them and if they say yes that means way more practice than their team. The story ends when the season ends.
I think the author was tring to tell us its not easy playing football and school is a lot more important than sports. On page 34 Bobby broke his leg and he still has to do good on his grades to play football.Bobby broke his leg by taking Rocky's music player with out asking. Then they got in a fight and Bobby broke his leg on a bench. This book made me feel like I was Rocky feeling gulty that I broke Bobby's leg. I would recommend this book because the problem could happen to anybody you know or even you. Also it shows how big a comentment football is.

'Lost And Found,' By Andrew Clements reviewed Hunter L.

In this book there were two main characters, named Jay and Ray. The problem is they are tired of people saying Jay or Ray. So Jay went to school by himself. His brother's files got mixed up with Jay's files so the school thinks there is one kid is coming to their school. The the whole book, one of them went to school and the other one stays home.
If you want to know more, read the book. I recommend this book because this book is funny.

"Among the Brave," by Margret Peterson Haddix, reviewed by Eric M.

Trey is the main character in "Among the Brave" He is an illegal third child and he is scared of everything. The only thing he wants to do is save his friends and hide. The book begins when Trey gets dropped off at Mr. Talbot's house with Nina. The story takes place today in the country/city. The main events and problems are that Luke Nina Trevor and John get kidnapped by the population police. One thing about the author is that i love the way he gets the characters involved. Also i really like how he describes the characters when there hurt sad or excited. This book made me feel excited and i couldn't put the book down. I was even reading while doing my chores. I would not recommend this book to people who have not read the other books in the series such as Among the Hidden. I love this book.

"Ramona the Pest," by Beverly Cleary, reviewed by Shauna K.

5 stars

"Ramona the Pest" made me laugh out loud. In the beginning of the book, Ramona is excited because it is her first day of kindergarten. When they go outside Miss Binney makes her sit on the bench when they were playing a game called gray duck. Miss Binney made Ramona sit on the bench because she pulled the hair of the girl in front of her. Ramona pulled it because it was blond, bobby, curly and she just wanted to touch it. Beverly Cleary did not use too many quotes to make it confusing. I think this was done really well. I highly recommend this book to 5th graders who like realistic fiction books.

"How To Steal A Dog," by Barbara O'Connor, reviewed by Kayleigh N.

4 Stars

What would you do if you if you needed $500? How would you spend it? 10 year old Georgina who is very determined and her younger brother Toby who is about 7 years old will do anything to get them and their mom out of a car and living in a house. After thinking a little Georgina decided to steal a dog and get the reward money to pay for a house. When Georgina stole the dog her and Toby found the owner of the dog and persuaded her to put up Lost posters with a reward of $500. The owner,Carmella, didn't have the money and her sister wouldn't give her the money to her so a family member gave her the money. This story takes place mostly in the Haye's car and at Carmella's house.
This book is serious but in a fun,kid way. Barbara O'Connor did an interesting thing by pretending that she was Georgina and she wrote in a journal called How To Steal a Dog. I would recommend this book to other 5th graders because I think they can relate(not with stealing a dog)but with sticky situations like Georgina and Toby went through.

A boy name Cornell Duncan [most people call him Dunk]was not a very good basketball player. He couldnt dunk from a 6 foot latter ;he jumps only 2 inches and he is a flat foot which
means hes a flat foot but when you put him on the free throw line he doesn"t miss! He shoots 10 20free throw. One time he shot 100 free throw in a row.

One day Dunk gets a call from the Hudson City Allstars asking him to help them win the state tonement because if they win they will win free passes to a famos hotel with a beach.Plus Dunk could be an allstar him self .I"d love to tell more but I don"t want to give it away.I would recommend this spectaclar book to all those basketball lovers. "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" reviewed by BrandonB.

4 stars

I liked this book because of the great descriptions. Do you want to smell the chocolate? If you do read on. It all started when a chocolate factory re opened. The owner Willy Wonka put 5 golden tickets in the wrapper; who ever gets them gets a tour of his factory. Remember there are only 5 in the whole world. The five people that got them were Augustes Gloop, Veruca Salt,Violet Beauregarde, Mike Tevee and Charlie Bucket. Will anybody survive in a chocolate factory with almost any of candies you can think of? If you read this book, read some other of Roald Dahls other crazy books with excitement. This is a great book in honor of Roald Dahl. May he rest in peace. If you read this book you will have chocolate cravings for weeks. I recommend this book to all fifth graders because of the desriptive wording!

This two time award winning author Lois Lowery made this book one I would never ever forget. Her humorous twist which reminded me of Alladin, kept me entertained for the whole story. This book I highly recommend to 4th and 5th graders that love books with humorous parts and to kids that love to READ! I could not put this book down for a minute! Does Princess Patricia become a poor peasant or does she marry one of the weirdos chosen for her. Will she have a happily ever after or not?

How would you like to be a murderer? How would you like to be the most hated and wanted person in America? How would you like to put the country in despair? That's exactly what John Wilkes Booth did and was. You may know the story but I garantee that you will be surprised at the details this author found and you will never guess what happens next. John Wilkes Booth was a famous actor that didn't like that the Confederate (south) lost to the Union (north). To solve his problem and turn the Civil War around he tried to shoot the president. Did he succeed? Read "Chasing Lincoln's Killer" to find out. I highly recommend this book to people that like thrillers and Non Fiction. This is a little tricky but would be great for anyone.

"Blood Ninja 2,"by Nick Lake, reviewed by Ian P.

4 stars

The book "Blood Ninja 2" was an extreme action book that constantly had me on the edge of my seat until I was finished. There are a few main characters but the most important one is a simple fisher boy named Taro. One day, his home town was attacked by a gang of ninja vampires. One of the ninjas was sent to protect Taro. During the fight, Taro was injured badly and was turned into a vampire. The rest of the book was about when Taro, Shusaku (the good ninja), and Hiro(Taro's best friend) go searching for the ninja who killed Taro's father. This book was great for me because it's a long book and has the right amount of action. The author had the book going at a good fast pace but still included amazing details. An example of the details were when Taro found the buddah ball. He described it as a world in mini-form.

"Flush," by Carl Hiaasen, reviewed by Hannah F.

"Then he went outside and put an arm around the old pirate's shoulders." That's one of the lines in the book Flush. Flush is filled with adventure, love, and nature. The author, Carl Hiaasen, enjoys writing stories set in Florida. His other books, Hoot and Scat, also have an environmental problem. Noah Underwood (the main character) and Abbey Underwood (Noah's sister) have a dad who has a mind and heart for nature. Sometimes Mr. Underwood gets out of control and lets his mind shut down and lets his heart take over. The Coral Queen (a casino boat) was dumping the holding tank into the ocean. Inside the holding tank was other peoples' waste, (you know what I mean) and that can harm the ocean. Paine's heart told him to sink the boat. Does he do it? Does he get in trouble if he does it?

Mr. Underwood wants to nail Dusty Muleman (owner of the boat). Noah's grandpa Bobby is supposedly dead and BIG surprises stumble along the Underwoods. When Noah's dad is put in jail, Mrs. Underwood talks about a divorce. This scares Abbey and Noah and they are trying to prove that their dad is right. Noah uses his resources and talks to Shelly and Lice Peeking. Suddenly Lice disappears and blood is found all over the Jeep. Is Lice really dead? Does Shelly go out looking for him?

Paine loves to go fishing and tells his children about a green flash, an old tale in Florida. Abbey and Noah want to see it so bad and they are ready every time if they ever get the chance to see it. Do they see the green flash? Is it really green? Do the Underwoods ever have a normal life? All questions will be answered if you read Flush. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants adventure and love in a book. Most of all if you care about the environment this book is for you!!!

"SCAT," by Carl Hiaasen, reviewed by Jesse F.

5 stars

"SCAT " is one of the best books I've ever read. In the story, Nick and Marta are two ordinary thirteen year olds who are going on a field trip with their mean biology teacher, Mrs. Starch. When a wildfire starts to burn, they have to leave early. Mrs. Starch went back into the swamp to get Libby's asthma inhaler but they had no idea she wouldn't be coming out.

"SCAT" takes place in present day Florida. Carl Hiaasen does a phenomenal job making you feel like you are in the story. You feel like you are really there watching it happen. He uses a lot of descriptive words like " Drake Mcbride wore a cowboy hat, snakeskin boots, and a pale shirt with snapped buttons". I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about environmental issues. Overall, I think Carl Hiaasen is a very talented writer.

"Make Four Million Dollars By Next Thursday", by Steven Maines, reviewed by Andrew B

Do you like silly books? Jason Nozzle (the main character) found a book called How to Make Four Million Dollars by Next Thursday. He decided to read the book. Dr. K. Pinkerton Silverfish the author of the book Jason is reading, tells Jason to put 37 dollar signs on all of his clothes, held by 37 safety pins. He did that because it makes it so he can take mean comments. The author told him to dig a hole for a hour outside in a secret spot. Then put a dollar in the hole and fill it back up. Then sprinkle a dollar worth of coins on the hole to fertilize the soil. I recommend this book to fifth graders who like silly things. If you would like to find out what Dr. K. Pinkerton Silverfish does to Jason read the book. I hope you read the book!!!!!

The story takes place in Snorgpeke where they both find some of there circus friends that are convinced to try to kill Edgar and Ellen. There leader is Uta Glogg and her pet Yehti that helps try to kill them. This book was not my favorite but it was OK. I like how the author used descriptive words to explain the characters. Have you ever met twins who love to cause trouble? Edgar and Ellen are twins who love to cause trouble in their hometown Nod's Limbs. They always go around in their footsie pj's. The twins know all about the underground sewers. Most of the story takes place at the junkyard or undertown in the sewers. The twins find a holdup and it was a brick wall blocking the biggest bridge and stole their idea. The wall said on it, The Mason. The mayor is taring down the junkyard and the twins are trying to stop him because that's where they get all their parts for their evil schemes. Later on in the story the twins find The Mason and she tries to team up with them to stop building the hotel. But she only wants to stop Smelterberg Construction so her business can build the hotel. They come up with a plan to stop the hotel at the ceremony when the dump trucks pour the concrete. Mason accidentally presses the button while the mayor captures the wrong Mason but they still don't know that Edgunia(Mason) is really Mason. So the concrete gets poured and the whole place is a disaster and then the dump trucks get backed into the place and they fall into the whole underground. The concrete fills in the tunnels underground. So now, sadly, they can build hotel. Edgunia lies and says Gus, the headman of Smelterberg is the Mason. Read the book to find out what happens if they do or don't build the hotel. I recommend this to people who like mysteries because the end of the book is a wide open cliffhanger. I like how the author uses more than one main character because some books are all about one person.

"Summer Ball" is a book that will influence you to be whatever you want to be no matter what the obstacle is.

Danny is a basketball player but there is one thing that makes him stand out, he is shorter than your average basketball player. The book starts when Danny asks when the "big" growth spurt will come his way. His parents say soon but Danny doesn't think so.

Danny and his friends Will and Ty go to Danny's second favorite basketball player's camp in Maine . While they are at the camp they encounter a snotty player they beat in a travel tournament because of a "flop" by Danny, Rasheed Hill. Danny and Rasheed are on the same team with a coach that has favorites, his favorite? Rasheed. Danny must prove he belongs on the team. Will Danny rise or fall? Read "Summer Ball" to find out in this inspiring novel, I highly recommend this book because of the many cliff hangers like when Coach Powers tells Danny he should quit basketball and find another sport, soccer.

5 Stars

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you could do magic? Have you ever dreamed you ever wished or dreamed you could do magic? If your answer is yes, this book is for you. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is about a boy named Harry Potter. Harry Potter is famous because when he was only one year old, a evil wizard named Lord Voldemort murdered his mum and dad. He also tried to kill Harry, but he could not. Instead, the curse rebounded onto Lord Voldemort himself. Lord Voldemort lost almost all his powers, and Harry was left with a lightning scar. From then on, Lord Voldemort's goal was to kill Harry Potter once and for all.
Harry and his friends. Hermione and Ron, go on an adventure hunting Horcruxes. Horcruxes are parts of Voldemort's soul. Only an evil, Dark wizard could produce a Horcruxes because you need to have killed someone first. In order to get rid of a Horcrux, you need to destroy it beyond magical repair. You can use the Sword of Gryffindor or a basilik fang. Both have basilik venom, which is deadly and only has one cure, phoenix tears. Phoenix tears are extremely rare. Basilik fangs are very uncommon, and the Sword of Gryffindor is lost. They also don't know where the Horcruxes are. The Horcruxes must be well hidden. If you have Horcruxes, you can not be killed until all Horcruxes are destroyed. The hunt resolves into a final battle, The Battle of Hogwarts. Who will win? Who will fall? Join Harry, Hermione and Ron on their final adventure.

I recommend this book to people who love action. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will have you zapped into the book. You won't be able to stop reading this book. This book is amazing and I highly recommend it.
